Gilberto Pichetto Fratin

Minister of the Environment and Energy Security

Gilberto Pichetto Fratin is the Minister of the Environment and Energy Security in the government led by Giorgia Meloni. He was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in this legislature. Born in Veglio, a municipality in the Biella area, in 1954, he is a chartered accountant and statutory auditor by profession. During his political and administrative career, he initially held various positions in municipal and regional administrations, beginning his parliamentary career as a senator in the 16th legislature (2008-2013). He was later vice president of the Piedmont Region with responsibility for budget and finance. Elected to the Regional Council in 2014, after being a candidate for president, Pichetto continued his work in the Region until 2018. Subsequently, he was re-elected to the Senate in the single-member constituency of Biella-Vercelli. In the government headed by Mario Draghi, he was appointed first undersecretary and then deputy minister at the Ministry of Economic Development, with responsibilities related to the automotive sector, trade, and industrial policies. Today, as Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, he is aiming to establish a new model of sustainable economic growth in line with EU decarbonization targets and the increasingly complex climate context
